PRINCE, not a REFUGEE

As calaf is the prince, im always not happy with the pic i did a few yrs ago. and yesterday i decided to give it a go and do it again. emm.......it looks much better, at least does not look like a refugee anymore.

THE STORY OF TURANDO

The vengeful Princess Turandot has decreed that anyone seeking her hand in marrage must answer 3 riddles or die. Many Princes local and foreign tried, failed, and been summarily executed, their heads displayed before the crowd.

Calaf, a foreign Prince in disguise, is struck by Turandot's beauty and resolves to win her, despite the pleas of his blind father Timur, who has fled his native country and come to Peking in disguise. He is attended by the slave girl Liu,who has loved Calaf from afar. She begs Calaf not to attempt the riddles. 3 ministers, Ping, Pang and Pong also try to dissuade Calaf, but he is inflamed by Turandot, and he strike the gong 3 times to declairing his candicacy.

Turandot appears, more beautiful than ever. She explains that years ago an ancestor of hers was ravished by an invader; in revenge, she has sworn that no man will have her unless he solve the riddles. To the dismay of Turandot, and the delight of the crown, Calaf answers the 3 riddles correctly. Turandot begs her father the emperor to release her from the stranger but he refused. Calaf then offers to die if Truandot can guess his name by the next morning. That night, Truandot sends her troops throughout Peking to disxover Calaf's name. She finds Liu and tortures her, but Liu kills herself and his secret dies with her. Calaf sings "Nassum Dorma" - No One Sleep; Turandot will not guess his name, by darn, he will be victorious.

it's morning, Turandot and Calaf comfront each other. Despite Turandot's please, Calaf declears his love, and force a kiss on her, Turandot melts, and Calaf reveals his name. Turandot summons her court and declears she has learned the stranger's name - it is "LOVE". The nation rejoices.
